As part of St Aidan’s Book Week, we took part in lots of different activities to celebrate reading for pleasure. On Tuesday, we visited Dunston Library. We discussed how the library is organised and found out how to join the library if we were not already a member. The children thoroughly enjoyed browsing a wide selection of high-quality fiction, non-fiction and poetry before selecting a book to borrow that they felt that they would enjoy. On Thursday, we took part in a BBC Teach World Book Day live lesson and invited our parents in for a reading for pleasure session in our library. We shared our favourite books with our parents and showed them how our St Aidan’s library is organised. On Friday, we celebrated World Book Day dressing up as our favourite book characters. Some of us even came as characters that we had created and written stories about! We enjoyed being fantastic reading role models for the younger children when we visited Year 2 and shared picture books with them. We ended our day with a visit from Mrs Bullerwell, who shared her favourite childhood book with us. It was great to hear so many children and adults recommending books to one another throughout the week.
