In our Music lessons so far this half term, Year 3 have been learning about Classical and Baroque music.
We focused on Beethoven and created a case study. We learnt that Beethoven’s pieces of music are incredibly complicated. Beethoven trained as a musician from the age of 4/5 and was born in Germany. His first Music teacher was his father. In his 30’s he became deaf. By the time he was 40, he was completely deaf. One of his most intricate pieces of work was called ‘Rage after a lost penny’. His most famous piece of work was called Symphony no.9, also known as ‘The Ninth’. We learnt that Beethoven has a contrast to his music. We listened to 2 styles of Symphony no.9 and compared them. The first style appeared scary, whether the second was joyful.
The children used glockenspiels and practised the opening of Symphony no.5. The children first played; ‘E, E, E, C’, followed by ‘D, D, D, B’.
