This half term in DT, we have designed, built and evaluated our own birdhouses. We began by finding out about the different kinds of bird houses and the birds that live in them. Mrs Fraser challenged us to design and build a birdhouse for a blue tit, great tit or nuthatch. We agreed on design criteria as a class, and used CAD (computer-aided design) to design a bird house with a small hole. We practised our sanding and hammering skills, before using them to attach pieces of wood together using a glue gun and nails. Then we painted our bird house to make it look appealing in a garden with lots of colourful flowers. Take a look at our birdhouses! We are very proud of them.
