What a fantastic and busy week we have had in Year 6! Year 6 children have the huge responsibility of being role models for the younger children so we began our week by reminding ourselves of our mission statement here at St Aidan’s. We discussed the meaning of our vision “Life in all its’ fullness” (John 10:10) and of the importance of our living out our Christian values in school so that we can shine like lights in the world as children of God.
We created a classroom contract together and agreed on a set of rules that both children and teachers would follow to ensure that our classroom is a happy, caring environment where we can all feel safe and valued in order to learn. We enjoyed working on our election campaigns to become House Captains, preparing speeches and campaign posters in teams, before performing our speeches and taking part in an election – complete with ballot papers and a ballot box! We may have some future politicians on our hands. Congratulations to our elected House Captains… we know that you will represent your house brilliantly and do yourselves proud!
In Geography, we practised our atlas skills when describing where Teams is located in the world, whilst in RE, we explored the Big Story of the Bible through the Big Frieze artwork and used the language of religious concepts such as Incarnation and Salvation.
On Thursday morning, we enjoyed our first session of Forest School led by Phil from Muddy Monsters. We explored the Forest School (finding strawberries that we really enjoyed eating) and used our risk assessment skills when swinging and hanging from rope swings and a hammock. Then we worked in groups showing brilliant teamwork and communication skills to make dens using rope, trees and tarpaulin.
On Friday morning, we took part in The Punctuation Show online, competing against other schools in a grammar and punctuation quiz. We were very competitive and managed to answer all of the questions correctly.
