This half term, we are learning about what life was like for Jewish children in Great Britain and in Nazi-occupied states during the Second World War. Last week, we learnt that children of all faiths living in large cities of Great Britain were evacuated to the countryside to protect them from the bombing, destruction and danger of the Blitz. This week, we used historical sources of information to find out what life was like for Jewish children living in Nazi-occupied countries. We read extracts from Anne Frank’s diary and discussed how reliable and useful this was as a source of information. We then looked at other sources of information such as diary accounts, photographs and Nazi government documents to find evidence to support or refute Anne Frank’s diary. We discussed rules for effective speaking and listening and used sentence stems to support our discussion.
