In English this week, Year 2 were introduced to the genre of fairy tales. The children discussed what makes a fairy tale, including the types of characters and settings commonly found in these magical stories. After sharing several fairy tales they already knew, our focus story was revealed: Little Red Riding Hood. The children then enjoyed listening to the story in our Forest School area before using their listening skills to identify sounds that Little Red Riding Hood might have heard on her journey through the forest, such as crunchy sticks, singing birds, rustling leaves and buzzing bumblebees.
