Yesterday, Year 6 enjoyed working as geography detectives when learning about the location of different human and physical features of China. We used a range of maps such as population density maps, physical maps and climate zone and biome maps to estimate the location of different geographical features, such as the Shanghai, Mount Everest, a popular tourist destination Yalong Bay and the Gobi desert. We used our geographical knowledge of how to interpret these maps to reach informed conclusions. For example, the children correctly identified the approximate location of the Gobi desert as they used the population density map to find the least densely populated area and the climate zone map to find the arid climate zone area. Mrs Fraser was very impressed by the ‘Working geographically’ skills that were demonstrated.
