Year 3 at High Force

In Science this half term we have been learning about the different types of natural rocks. As part of the the learning we have been fortunate enough to visit High Force and experience the rocks in their natural habitat. After many winding roads, and quite a long journey we arrived at High Force to be welcomed by the ranger and our guide for the day Andy. We were split into 2 separate groups to experience the spectacular waterfall and magnificent surroundings. We gained a wealth of information from Andy and were able to see, touch, and smell the surroundings. We learnt that the waterfall is made up from the 3 natural rocks, igneous rock is at the top, metamorphic in the middle and sedimentary at the base of the waterfall. Before we went on the trip we discussed what we wanted to learn and experience from the day. When we got back to school and reflected, we concluded that most of our questions were answered and we experienced all we had wished for and more. It was such a fantastic day, the children were all engaged and gained fantastic knowledge. Well done Year 3.
