Maths
Through the study of mathematics, our pupils will develop confidence and fluency in their understanding of concepts in order to reason and problem solve beyond the mathematics curriculum. They will become more prepared for the challenges presented in the world around them (for example in order to become financially literate).

Transition – Year 1 to Year 2
What a lovely morning Year 1 had today! Year 1 found out that their new teachers will be Miss Ho and Miss Dunn. We started off by sharing facts about ourselves such as our favourite subjects, siblings and pets that we have. The children then voted together and chose...
Describing Movement
Our topic in Maths is ‘Position and Direction’. We first warmed up by playing ‘Miss Ho says’ and children carefully listened and followed instructions to move in different directions. Miss Ho made it challenging as children had to be quick in following the instruction...
Telling the time
In maths we have been learning how to tell the time. This is as important skill that we all need, and Year 3 are already brilliant at telling the time, even before we began the lessons. Our homework this week is to tell the time to our families. We created our own...
Doubling
This week we have been looking at doubling in maths. We have learnt that double means twice as many. We have been doubling the spots on the butterflies and using the doubling box.
Forming algebraic expressions using concrete objects
As part of our Algebra topic in maths, we have been using multi link cubes and Dienes ones to represent algebraic expressions. We also enjoyed creating representations of cubes for our partner to write an algebraic expression for.
Time
Our new topic in Maths is Time. At the start of today's lesson, Mrs. McCabe used a large clock to show the children what O'clock and half past looks like using the red arrow and blue arrow on the clock. We then worked in pairs where one person asked the other to make...
Measurement
Our Maths topic this half term is Measurement. Yesterday, as a starter, we used a ruler to count in 2's, 5's and 10's. We then learnt that a ruler is measured in centimetres and when we measure the length of an object, we must always start at zero. We then discussed...
Measuring in Maths
This half term in maths we have began to learn about measuring. We understand that for bigger lengths we measure in metres, really small lengths in mm and then cm's for anything in-between. We have been able to convert different lengths to help us compare, add and...
Porridge tasting
This week Nursery have been learning about the traditional tale ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Our number of the week is number 3, so we have been counting in groups of 3. We have had lots of fun scooping, pouring and measuring porridge oats in our water tray this...
Multiplication and Division
Our current Maths topic is 'Multiplication and Division'. At the start of yesterdays lesson, we practiced counting in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's using a metre stick. We then moved onto sharing. Miss Greenwell called up some volunteers to the front of the class and shared...
